さて、SONYのVAIO typePはどうしようか。

忙しすぎて更新のタイミングを見失いつつある近況。
今日も忙しくて結局今に至るまで落ち着きなくバタバタとしてたわけですが、その帰宅の途中ヨドバシで"VAIO typeP"を実機で触ってきました。

ラスベガスで開催中のCES 2009にて今回SONYが発表した新型モバイルノートですが、以前からリーク情報やら、公式カウントダウンやら、ティザー広告やら、先行予約受付メール登録やらと散々煽ってきたわりには思ったより驚きはありませんでした。もっとこう驚愕のテクノロジーが搭載されてるのかと思ったｗ

でも、見れば見るほどSONYらしい独自のこだわりが見えてきて物欲センサーが激しく反応してきました。というか発表が色んなサイトで取り上げられまくっててRSSのチェックのたびに「typeP」の文字が見えて自然と気になって･･･（戦略的洗脳効果！？）。まぁ発表のタイミングからレビューに至るまでが物凄いスムーズで事前にそういう展開を狙ってたのは明らかなんでしょうけどｗ

一般的なミニノートカテゴリ"netbook"ではないもののAtom搭載機ということでどんな差をつけてくるのかがポイントになるわけですが、色んな点でその違いは見られます。んで、触ってきた感想ですが、普通に"これは買いレベル"には達してました。

そんなわけで以下typePを見て、触って色々思うことを。

▼使用感
まずサイズのわりにキーボードの使用感がかなり優秀。キーピッチが縦にも横にも余裕があるので狭苦しい感じは一切なし。タッチ感覚はやわらかめ。ここは人によって好みが分かれるかも。ただこの本体245×120×19.8mm(幅×奥行き×高さ)というサイズでのキーボードとしては凄くいい部類に感じました。

そのサイズと重さですが、凄いですね。まず軽っ！と声が漏れるほど驚きがありました。
分解レポートとか開発者インタビューとかを読んでみると、中もかなり試行錯誤してボードひとつとっても色んな工夫がされているみたいで、その結果が十分得られてるなぁと感じます。600gを基本として、VAIOオーナーメードモデルの最軽量構成では約588gになるみたい。んで大きさはSONYが提案する（？）"ポケットに入る"ってのはちょっと違う気がしますが、小さめの鞄にも十分対応できる大きさで良いですね。こういう点から持ち運ぶという用途にはかなり適してるのと同時に女性向けを意識しているのも分かります。

液晶は独自開発の8型ウルトラワイド・解像度1,600×768ドットということで、ここで縛りのあるnetbookでは実現できない高解像度を実現してます。小さいながらHD動画も高精細に見られます。ただその分文字サイズは結構小さい。自分は文字の見易さより一度に視認できる情報量を優先するのでそこはいいんですが、文字サイズを大きくしてもやはりこのサイズだと限界はあるので、気になる人は実機で見てみたほうがいいかも。アスペクト比は25:12という変態仕様に関しては特に不便はありませんし、逆に「ウィンドウ整列ユーティリティー」というウィンドウの自動整列という独自の操作があるおかげで広い画面横幅を活用できてます。

バッテリに関しては標準バッテリーで4.5時間持ちとなってますが、実際はそこまで持たないでしょうね。それについてはしばらく使用した上での感想ということで以下の本田氏のレビューを参考にするのがいいかと。

▼スペック的なもの
やはりネックになるのはOSがVistaだということですかね。
デスクトップで組むようなスペックの高いメインマシンだと個人的には普通にVista使ってるのでいいんですが、モバイルノートにVistaを載せるとどうも･･･というのはやはりあります。CPUがAtomで、チップセットも貧弱だともたつきが気になるのは当然。ただこのtypePでいえば、CPUはnetobook縛りがあると載せる事ができないZ540(1.86GHz)を選択（VAIOオーナーメードモデル）できるのと、メモリは標準で2GBなので一応一定のストレスがないレベルではあります。ただCPUが標準のZ520（1.33GHz）だとちょっとキツイ･･･ケチらずZ540構成にするのがいいな。公開が近い日本向けWindows 7βを載せる荒業を実行する人は･･･多分いるんだろうなぁｗ

ストレージに関しては60GB HDD、128GB SSDか64GB SSDと選択肢があります。
SSDはMLCタイプらしいんですが、そこまで激的な差は感じないと思う。ここは予算で判断すべきところなんでしょうけど、ただやはりこのtypePを選ぶのであればSSDを選ばない理由はないと思う。ファンレス仕様に加えてHDDも無くなれば完全なゼロスピンドルだし、その魅力は見逃せない。それとバッテリ持ちにもちょっとだけ影響は出そう。


▼その他、気になるところ
ハードウェアデコードによる動画再生支援機能があるということでAVCHD、WMV、MPEG-2、MPEG-4、H.264等のHD動画再生に有利なわけだけどどこまでか有用なものかはちょっと分からない。上でリンクを貼った本田氏によればYouTube HDが問題ないと書かれているので、ブラウザでの基本的なHD動画閲覧に問題がないのは分かる。あとはプレイヤー下でのH.264再生支援がどの程度なのかが気になる。ビットレートさえ高過ぎなければ問題ないという範囲だとは思うけど。

ポインティングデバイスは正直使い辛い。タッチパッドに慣れているのもあるけど、感度がよすぎる。というか個人的にスティック型は好きじゃない。とはいえタッチパッドのスペース分をまるまる削ってこのサイズが実現したわけだからそこに文句はありませんが。

このtypePにはインスタントOSが載ってる。LinuxベースでGUIはXMB(クロスメディアバー)のやつが。これが何気に重宝するかもしれない。電車用途であればｗ

カラバリは店頭モデルはクリスタルホワイト、ガーネットレッド、ペリドットグリーンの3色、それに加えてSonyStyle限定色としてオニキスブラックがあるわけだけど、色も女性ユーザーを意識してる印象。買うならソニスタでオーナーメード構成であることが前提な自分はオニキスブラックを選ぶのでいいけど、店頭モデルで渋めの色がないのはちと人を選ぶかも。


▼あとは迷うだけ･･･
正直、多少の不便さがあるのは事実だけどこのサイズのノートに贅沢な要求をするのもまた無理な話。そう考えればこのtypePは無骨な穴1つ見当たらないデザインも洗練されているし、いかに物欲を刺激するかという点でかなりウマいアプローチを効かせてると思う。SonyStyleでワンセグだのカメラだの個人的にいらない機能を全部外してAtom Z540にBluetooth追加ぐらいの変更で十分モバイル・サブノートとしては使えるものになりそう。

個人的に"持ち運んで使う"という点で言うと、iPhoneは遊びやら簡易ユーティリティに移動時Webアクセスの面では現状最強。でもいかんせん、コーディングやらブログ下書きなどテキストベースの作業には向かないというか無理な面があるので、このtypePを持つ意味は大きい。自宅と会社間における必須アイテムになり得るのは間違いない。

問題は買うタイミング･･･今は外でのデータ通信は考えてないので別途契約する予定もありませんが、その内導入はするのでそのタイミングに合わせた方がいいのかなぁ･･･という点と、あと1つは予算消費のタイミング。この不景気下で冬のボーナスは残念な感じだったので今ここで使っていいのかと。

いやぁ迷うね･･･でもこの時が楽しいのよね(´・ω・｀)

それにしても今回のCESは魅力的な出展が多いですね。SONYの有機ELウォークマンなんかはデザイン的にもかなりアリだし、機能も多様化してて興味深い。有機ELといえばtypePに近いところでモバイルノートに有機ELを採用したポケットPC「OQO Model2+」なんかも発表されてたり。東芝56型Cell TVなんて4k2k対応を謳ってて、試作ながら思ったより早い登場にびっくり。SONYは有機EL-TVの大型化が目先の課題で注目が集まってますが、さっさと家電にCell使おうよ･･･。
ゲーム関連の出展もあって、PS3 3Dのデモンストレーションや、「KILLZONE2」がプレイアブルで公開されている他、SCEのCEO平井さんもSONYの基調講演でちょっとだけ登場しており、「Life With PlayStation」の今春アップデートが告知されたりも。

この"VAIO typeP"の発表もあったりと今年最初のイベントとしては情報を得るのも楽しいイベントになってますな(｀・ω・´)
